Outlook 07/10 HTML Email Rending Problem

So it’s getting around the Web quite a bit lately that Outlook 2007 and 2010 no longer render HTML emails properly. Outlook 07 LogoThe biggest issue relates to background images. At MAF (www.maf.org) where I work, I create the marketing emails that go out. I only realized this issue about a month ago because I was using Microsoft Entourage 2004 (Outlook for Mac) and it works fine. I have since installed Outlook ’07 for testing purposes and have had a major headache getting it to render the emails properly.

As I usually do, I asked Google to help me solve the problem and I eventually found this post by Brian Thies on the Campaign Monitor forum: http://www.campaignmonitor.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=3862. I tried his suggestion and it worked great!

Since I found something that might be useful for someone else, I wanted to post the link here, just in case it could help someone else.

Since my portfolio category is pretty much empty, I’m posting this to showcase a site that I did for my brother-in-law, Dr. Luke Flory. He is an ecologist and works for the Indiana University in Bloomington. He wanted the site to present his research as well as tell about himself. You can check out his site at www.lukeflory.com.

I actually did 2 designs for this site because he started up some new research for the Joint Fire Science Program, a government program that researches for fire and fuel managers. Here’s a couple screenshots:

Color Scheme Designer

I downloaded the theme for this blog (called DeepBlue) from AliveThemes.com. Since I don’t really like to use themes that I didn’t create, I decided to at least change it to fit a color scheme that I like better. I found a great web site for picking color schemes, so thought I’d share it: www.colorschemedesigner.com. Here’s a screenshot of the site:
